Today I received a ticket I had sent in for a signing with Gerrit Cole a month into the season. It was scheduled and then cancelled because he got hurt and then delayed again because he was rehabbing. Well, he was back in the Majors and the signing happened. I sent the ticket to J Carr (graphmanj on SCN) who worked through LoJo Sports to get it signed. It was a debut ticket in which Gerrit got his first ML win too. It was signed “MLB Debut/First Win” in fine gold paint pen and looks awesome!
Jack’s Back!
Today I went to the Twin Cities Sports Collectors Club show in Bloomington because Jack Morris was there signing autographs. It is kind of a drive for me to get there so I really only go there when there is an autograph signer I am interested in. I have just about everything signed by Jack I needed from all the times he was at Twinsfest but I recently bought a 1991 World Series baseball and thought it would be cool to get signed with an inscription. I also decided to start a second Sports Illustrated magazine, this time in blue. My friend Greg N (justgreg on SCN) asked if I could get a card done for him and I found an extra rookie card laying around so I had enough to make it worthwhile. The cost was reasonable too so how could I not get them signed? So, today I got the following things signed:
1991 World Series baseball signed under the logo with “91 W.S. MVP” (looks awesome)
11.02.1992 Sports Illustrated
1978 Topps rookie card
1987 Topps (for Greg)
After I got them all signed I walked around and found a guy selling 1967 Topps High Numbered cards. He gave me a decent price on 19 of them for $200. I had found a low numbered card earlier for $1 I needed. So, I knocked off 20 of my remaining 86 cards for the 1967 set. I am down now to needing “just” 66!
Roe Roe Roe Your Boat
Back in late April, 2013 I sent a baseball to Roe Skidmore asking him to write about his one at bat in the Major Leagues and his 1.000 batting average. Today I received a really nice note from him apologizing for the long delay in getting it returned to me and that it got put in a corner of his office behind a file cabinet and he just found it. His note was awesome as was the baseball. I really appreciate former players like Mr Skidmore who genuinly cares about people who send requests to them. Thanks Mr Skidmore!
A Triplet of Twins
Today I received three cards I bought from Kent B (doggle3 on SCN) from when the Twins were in Kansas City last week. Kent does an awesome job of getting autographs and takes good care of my stuff.
I received:
2014 Topps Heritage Josh Willingham
2014 Topps Samuel Deduno
2014 Chris Parmelee
As always, you the man Kent! Thanks!
