The May 26, 2008 Sports Illustrated magazine features a cartoonish, comic book like cover that was painted by Mark Bagley. It features Carl Crawford throwing Derek Jeter in the air while a bewildered Superman looks on. I noticed Chris R (rifon on SCN) had a RARE signing with Mark but there was also a rare signing with Carl Crawford happening about a week apart. If you follow this silly blog, you will notice I have gone through Chris a number of times for autographs so I asked if it would be possible to have him get Mark to sign it and get it to the show for Carl in time. He said he would try. Today the magazine showed up signed beautifully by both. Both signatures have holograms on the inside of the cover too!

Rippin’ It
I came across a post where Mike F of GOAT Sports Collectibles was selling a few magazines. I had most but a pair that really caught my eye that I needed was a pair of Sports Illustrated. One with Cal Ripken and one with Alex Rodriguez. I had the Cal Ripken issue but the CANADA version. I got that one signed years ago when Cal was doing a signing in the Twin Cities. This was the United States version from 12.18.1995. The A-Rod issue was from 07.08.1996. Both are authenticated by JSA.
The Spin Doctor!
A few weeks ago a friend of mine who lives in Washington State, Greg N (justgreg on SCN) reached out to me to see if I had been to any of the Chuck Foreman autograph events. I did not even know about it so I looked into it and saw that he was signing just about every weekend of late in the Twin Cities. I told him to send the cards. Side note that today I was going to buy a new grill. The current one is about fifteen years old and the burners started to not push flames out that strong so I figured I would replace it. I could have purchased the parts to fix it but I did not want to mess around with all the greasy parts, etc. I found that Lowe’s in Blaine had the one I wanted in stock so between that and Chuck’s appearance in Blaine, I decided to head up there. I got there about five minutes after Chuck was to show up. The person working with him had the table all set up and ready for Chuck. He showed up about twenty minutes late. MNDOT decided to shut down a couple interstates for road work this weekend and it caused delays for Chuck. I was the first to get his autograph. He was super cool and chatted with me for about ten minutes. He threw any inscription on any item. He was raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network. I got Greg’s three cards signed. I purchased a Sports Illustrated to get signed too. It is pretty beat up but it was the only one I could find unsigned on short notice. He signed that with all his career accolades as well as a card for me and I bought a cool black and white 8×10 photo. I asked him to sign something “To Greg” but he insisted in not signing that but rather a special postcard he had. Hopefully that will be a fun surprise for Greg. Chuck also insisted on placing his personal hologram on the items. He was really nice and friendly. It was a fun experience and I was happy to help out my buddy Greg!
Slammin’ Sammy & Great Scott!
Today’s mail brought in a couple real nice items! So nice that I had signature confirmation on it so I knew where it landed if it wasn’t me. Mike C (Mac6185 on SCN) assisted with getting a couple items done for me at a show recently. I received a pair of Sports Illustrated magazines as well as a completion to my 2023 Hall of Fame Induction ticket. Mike was able to get Sammy Sosa to sign my 09.21.1998 SI in blue Sharpie and 07.02.2018 in silver paint pen. He got Scott Rolen to sign my 2023 HOF Induction ticket perfectly to match the already signed Fred McGriff on it. It looks really sweet! I am excited to knock these off and add them to my collection!
