GREAT mail day!

Today we returned from a quick family vacation to Rapid City, SD and the baseball mail was awesome!

First, I mailed a request to Wade Boggs to sign a baseball and HOF postcard.  Since I recently mailed to him for two Sports Illustrated magazines, I asked my father-in-law if he minded if I sent one in his name.  It showed up to his house while we were gone.  I sent $25 cash this time for the donation to the hospital.  I received a real nice baseball with HOF 05 and HOF postcard also with HOF 05.

Then I opened the mail and found that Carlton Fisk had signed both of my Sports Illustrated magazines I had sent to him before leaving.  That included an $80 donation to “The Cancer Support Center”.

Also in the mail today was a Ryan Zimmerman card that was from the 2007 Topps set.  I traded with Eric H (toastwrpi on SCN) and got it while I was gone.

Finally, my favorite package…  I have mentioned my friend Jon S (tjsportcards on Pat Neshek’s site) on here before.  Most recently that I got some Brian Dozier items signed for him as he is a huge Dozier fan.  Well, while I was gone Jon sent me a REAL nice package of Twins items signed while in Rochester.  Jon has season tickets to the Red Wings and does a ton of autographing there.  In the package was the following awesome items:
Tsuyoshi Nishioka postcard
Tsuyoshi Nishioka eTopps card (can’t be too many of these out there outside of Jon’s and mine!)
Tsuyoshi Nishioka 2012 Allen & Ginter
Danny Valencia 2011 Allen & Ginter
Liam Hendriks 2012 Allen & Ginter
Chris Parmelee 2012 Topps (upgrade to the one I have)
Chris Parmelee 2012 Allen & Ginter
Chris Parmelee 2012 Topps Heritage
Jon has taken great care of me with my Rochester needs.  I hope to even the score someday!  THANKS JON!

Wade’n Through The Mail

Today was a great mail day!  I got in only one package but it was a good one!  Last week I sent Wade Boggs the two Sports Illustrated magazines he was on the cover of and a check for $40 to All Children’s Hospital and today they were returned signed!  One was signed with HOF 05.  He even used the marker I provided.  Great additions to the collection!

Robert Pershing Doerr

Today I received a special issue Sports Illustrated that celebrated Fenway Park’s 100 years.  SI issued two versions; one with an old black and white photo from 1965 and a newer colored photo.  I sent the black and white one to Bobby Doerr a month or so ago along with $5 and got it back with the autograph all bubbled due to the glossy cover.  I had even included a Staedtler to use.  I removed the autograph and resent it with a note to please use the marker provided and another $5.  It looks much better this time around.  He included his HOF 86 on it as well.

You Make the Call!

As part of my updated blog, I am going to include some of the other items I receive through  the mail or in trade or purchase instead of just getting in person. I think the in person events will still be the most fun but it might be neat to follow the other additions to the collection as well.

Today I received a couple neat baseballs in the mail. I received a baseball signed by Murray Chass with “2003 HOF- JG Taylor Spink Award”. The Taylor Spink award is given each year to an exceptional baseball writer.  It is much like the more well known Ford Frick award given to a baseball broadcaster. That is a nice addition to my collection.

I also received a neat Call Ball today. In discussing my latest endeavor, The Call Ball Collection, my friend Rob M mentioned it would be neat to get the radio call of Joe Castiglione calling the final out of the 2004 World Series when the Red Sox finally won one. Joe is the Red Sox radio broadcaster on WEEI. I sent a ball to him and he wrote his call on it and included a nice note that the money I sent will be donated to the “Labels
Are For Jars” organization in Lawrence, MA who feed the hungry. That was really cool!
