Modeling Clay

Today’s mail brought a real fun one! The 2008 Sports Illustrated Baseball Preview Issue had six players on it. It featured a fold out cover to show all six and they were real up and coming superstars. I had four of the six already sign it when I found that Todd S (toddschafer on SCN) was having a signing with Clay Buchholz, one of the remaining two. I excitedly mailed in my magazine and received it signed today! Todd even posted a photo of Clay signing it on his Facebook page! I am down to needing just Troy Tulowitzki to finish it up!

The players who have signed it already are:
Ryan Braun
Justin Upton
Jacoby Ellsbury
Clay Buchholz
Ryan Zimmerman

Not A Basket Weaver

Jeff Weaver was a pitcher who pitched for a few teams but appeared on the cover of a Sports Illustrated magazine only once. He posed with four other pitchers as well as George Steinbrenner on the cover of the 03.31.2003 issue. I had it signed previously by Clemens, Mussina, and Contreras so it was a no brainer to send it in to have Weaver sign it. Nick C (ncc500 on SCN) was having a private signing with him so I sent it to him and today received it back signed beautifully! Now I just need Andy Pettitte and it will be as complete as it can be.
Also received today was my Kent Hrbek ticket stub from when the team retired his #14. I asked for “Retired #14” but he only signed his name. Oh well. Not surprised.

Out of the Woods

Todd B (moselder71 on SCN) advertised a signing with Simeon Woods-Richardson well before Twinsfest. I added a pair of debut tickets at Twinsfest last year but it was Simeon’s scribble loopy “signature”. I had a pair more debut tickets and did not want to risk not having his full signature so I sent them in to Todd’s signing. I had to pay extra for the full name on the tickets but they turned out great. I had also sent in a pair of cards hoping that Simeon was not in a group I was going to have to get through at Twinsfest. Luckily, he was not and I am able to use the two cards I got signed too!
The items that showed up today are:
Debut Ticket with full name and “MLB Debut” @ 2
2023 Topps #479
2023 Topps Heritage #65
