“The Quick”

Mick “The Quick” Rivers recently had a signing in New York and my buddy Jon S asked if I wanted him on anything.  The first World Series I watched as a kid was the 1977 one and I remember Mickey Rivers playing in it.  I jumped on the chance to get Rivers on a baseball. Jon got it signed with “The Quick” and sent it to me today.  I look forward to helping out Jon’s collection with some cards I hope to get signed at Twinsfest in a couple weeks.

Where’s the John?

Today brought in a couple items from a recent private signing with Tommy John.  Tommy is one of those guys who is always mentioned as a borderline hall of famer and is most known as the first person to have “Tommy John Surgery” (duh!).

The signing was conducted by Patrick M (crash on SCN) and he did a great job.  I got a baseball signed with a few stats on it as well as two 2000 Greats of the Game cards.  It is a fairly well known fact among SCN members that items sent to Tommy’s address are being ghost signed by his ex-wife.  I had a 2000 Greats of the Game card already signed in my collection and was unsure if it was Mr’s or ex-Mrs’s autograph.  With these that came in it looks exactly like the one I had so now I have three.  I would rather be safe than sorry in any autograph I have in my collection.  I got the extra to send to a friend of mine who is collecting this set so he will be surprised when he gets it.

Merry Christmas To Me!

Actually, Merry Christmas to everyone (all two of you who reads this)!

Today’s mail brought an MVP and a 30 Game Winner!  First, Jamie B (jamieblye on SCN) attended a fundraiser for a local Michigan Food Shelf where Denny McLain was signing autographs for donations.  I sent him a pair of Sports Illustrated magazines and he got one signed for me!

The other package was awesome.  This past summer Josh Hamilton was on the cover of a Sports Illustrated magazine so I sent it off to him.  I received it just in time to be my Christmas present from him.  Josh is one of the best signers in the game for as good of a player he is.  Thanks Josh!
