Game 6

Today I received a story ball from former umpire Ed Montague. With everyone in “lock down”, Fox Sports North and the MLB channel has been playing old baseball games. One of the games they played recently was Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. While watching the rebroadcast, I discovered Eddie Montague was the home plate umpire so I sent him a baseball asking him about his memories of the game. The resulting baseball, as well as the game, was all about Kirby Puckett. It is a pretty cool baseball. He included a photo from behind home plate of Puck hitting his home run which showed Eddie’s back as well. He signed it with Best Wishes. Thanks for the neat addition to the Story Ball Collection Eddie!

A Winning HR!

Today I received a nice surprise! A while ago I had mailed a full ticket from Game 3 of the 1987 ALCS to Pat Sheridan as I saw he was signing via his office. I never heard back. I had one ticket left and saw that The Athlete Connection was having Pat as a signer at an upcoming show. I quickly put together the package to mail my remaining ticket in with a Sharpie and the fee and asked for Pat to inscribe it with “Game Winning HR”. Then the Coronavirus hit. The show was cancelled but they still got together with Pat for a private signing event and got my ticket signed. I did not realize they were going to have a signing with him. I figured I would just wait to have him at the rescheduled show and get it signed then.
Game 3 was the only game the Tigers won in the 1987 ALCS. I remember I was working as a land surveyor (my summer job in high school and college) and we had the truck stationed near us with the windows down and the radio playing the game. I remember sneaking back to the truck as often as I could to get a full game update. Sheridan hit the game winner off Jeff Reardon. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

A Metrodome Debut!

Today I received something that made me pretty happy. A while ago I sent out a bunch of debut tickets and got a few back right away but have not received one in a while. Today I received a ticket stub from Brian Simmons’ Major League debut (09.21.1998). He signed it with ML Debut and included a cool note. Since his debut was at the Metrodome, he mentioned that he loved playing in the Metrodome as he first got to play there in college as part of the Michican team in the Hormel Classic. Pretty fun and neat return!
