Oh Balls!

Today was a fun day to add a couple cool baseballs to the collection. I noticed on Facebook that Chris Hoag was selling a bunch of game used items from a person who consigned them to him to sell. I was watching some of these items that I thought were cool but was not willing to pay the price they were listed at. On Thursday, the Twins Home Opener Day, Chris ran a sale. It brought the prices down to a little more palatable price. I offered a price for a pair of baseballs and his consignor accepted my offer. I met Chris to pick up the baseballs today since he lived in the city right next to mine. The baseballs I picked up are:

  • 2005 Opening Day Game Used Baseball signed by Joe Mauer with “04/08/05 Game Used”
  • Game Used baseball from 06.14.2015 which was the game Byron Buxton made his Major League Debut.

With the year Byron has gotten off to I am excited to have this baseball. I have a pair of signed and unsigned tickets from this game in Texas so this is a cool addition.

Riding In An El Cimino

After rediscovering my 1965 Twins team baseball with a Jimmie Hall private signing, I have sent it out to Bernie Allen and just got it back from Pete Cimino today. Realistically, there are about three more signers who are above 90% return left. I am nervous any time I send something like this but I may continue to take those chances to get those three players on it. Follow along and see who they are!

Layin’ Down the Law!

I recently had an idea for something cool for my collection. I was inspired by a fellow collector who spent the COVID quarantine time writing to players who gave up home runs to Hank Aaron and asked them about each home run or their memory of the homer(s). I got an idea from that to write to a teammate of Roberto Clemente and ask what he remembers about “The Great One”. Today I received it back! Vern Law wrote all about Roberto and his memories of him all over the baseball. There is not a blank spot on the entire ball! It is really neat. I might have to try a few other players with other Hall of Famers!
