Where’s the John?

Today brought in a couple items from a recent private signing with Tommy John.  Tommy is one of those guys who is always mentioned as a borderline hall of famer and is most known as the first person to have “Tommy John Surgery” (duh!).

The signing was conducted by Patrick M (crash on SCN) and he did a great job.  I got a baseball signed with a few stats on it as well as two 2000 Greats of the Game cards.  It is a fairly well known fact among SCN members that items sent to Tommy’s address are being ghost signed by his ex-wife.  I had a 2000 Greats of the Game card already signed in my collection and was unsure if it was Mr’s or ex-Mrs’s autograph.  With these that came in it looks exactly like the one I had so now I have three.  I would rather be safe than sorry in any autograph I have in my collection.  I got the extra to send to a friend of mine who is collecting this set so he will be surprised when he gets it.

Great Friends, Great Autographs

Today’s mail brought a couple great packages.  One was the one I mentioned yesterday and the other was from my buddy Ryan A who attended the Chicago Sun Times show last weekend.

As expected, Chris Potter came through with the two Lee Lacy autographed Sports Illustrated magazines from his recent road trip of private signings.

Try as hard as they might, the USPS did not destroy the items inside the box like they did the outside.  Ryan took good care in packaging up everything and they all arrived in great shape.  First, Jose Contreras signed a Sports Illustrated magazine that was already signed by Mike Mussina.  Then, Ryan got Eric Davis to sign his Sports Illustrated issue from 1987.  Also included was Orlando Cepeda signing the issue with himself and all the other St Louis Cardinals.  Lastly, Ryan got a baseball signed by Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs.  Rizzo is going to be a beast in the coming years.  Thanks for taking care of me Ryan!  You the MAN!

Mudcat

Today I received a couple items I sent in to Chris Potter Sports for his signing with Jim Mudcat Grant.  I got a ticket stub from Game 6 of the 1965 World Series and a wire photo from Game 1 of the 1965 World Series.  Both turned out awesome.  Monday I suspect I will receive the two Lee Lacy Sports Illustrated magazines that I sent to him.

Chooch-ie Chooch-ie Coo!

It was been quite a while since I received something in the mail that I could post on here!  I am excited to be able to say today I received two Sports Illustrated magazines signed by Carlos “Chooch” Ruiz from a private signing.  Bill M (nosamm on SCN) had Ruiz come to his store in New Jersey for a signing and I sent in the magazines for it.  It finished one issue that featured Ruiz and Rocco Baldeli that I already had signed by Rocco.  The other issue was a regional issue available in the Philadelphi area.  They turned out great!
