Modeling Clay

Today’s mail brought a real fun one! The 2008 Sports Illustrated Baseball Preview Issue had six players on it. It featured a fold out cover to show all six and they were real up and coming superstars. I had four of the six already sign it when I found that Todd S (toddschafer on SCN) was having a signing with Clay Buchholz, one of the remaining two. I excitedly mailed in my magazine and received it signed today! Todd even posted a photo of Clay signing it on his Facebook page! I am down to needing just Troy Tulowitzki to finish it up!

The players who have signed it already are:
Ryan Braun
Justin Upton
Jacoby Ellsbury
Clay Buchholz
Ryan Zimmerman

Not Bogged Down

I will admit that I have sent to Wade Boggs too many times. I do, however, send a significant amount of cash in each package. Today I received a couple items that are duplicates but items I acquired only for the reason to get signed for my collection. I received a 3,000th hit commemorative card as well as a February, 1984 Baseball Digest. These are both duplicates but it was either get them signed and save them or toss them. They are still very nice additions to my collection!

Take It To The House!

Today I received what will probably be my final package from Chris L (ChrisL999 on SCN). A highlight of this summer was meeting Chris and his wife at a ballgame in Washington, DC. Chris has gotten me numerous autographs over the last handful of years. This package included:
Brady House MLB Debut ticket
and the following baseballs:
Juneiker Caceras
Caden Bodine
Ike Irish
Wehiwa Aloy
Justin Gonzales (Red Sox top prospect)
Ethan Frey
Ethan Petry
Bo Davidson
Andrew Alvarez
It has been another amazing season of Chris chasing autographs for me! Can’t wait until next summer!

Bert “Be Home” Blyleven

Some of you may remember Chris Bermann on ESPN giving nicknames to athletes. His Bert “Be Home” Blyleven was one of my favorites.
While organizing a box of items, I came across a couple old wirephotos I had bought somewhere along the line to get signed. I found two Tony Oliva and a Bert Blyleven wirephoto. I sent the two Oliva ones off to an upcoming signing and sent the Blyleven to Bert along with his requested donation. I received it back today signed along with a funny note. The photo shows Bert in mid-delivery with his knee above his elbow. He included a note that said “If I tried that high leg delivery now I would fall over!” Pretty funny stuff!
