Bogged Down

Today’s mail brought a ticket stub signed by Wade Boggs from the game he got his 1000th Career RBI. I was at that game and came across my pair of ticket stubs and decided to send one, with a donation of course, to Wade.
In related news, I also received a ticket stub from Kirby Puckett’s first home run game. I have been looking for this stub for over fifteen years and am really excited to add this to my collection. I have one other Puckett HR coming in. After that I will be down to needing just 23 tickets to complete my HR collection!

Sweet Music

Topps recently issued a set of painted cards by Andy Friedman. I found a seller selling them on eBay and bought a pair of the Kent Hrbek and Frank Viola ones. I thought they would cool signed. When I received the cards I was not overly impressed but sent them off to each former Twin player and received my first pair back today. Frank Viola signed both beautifully. His card is #21 in the set. Frank has not let me down with my recent requests to him (with donations of course)!

“Touch ’em all, Joe”

Blue Jays announcer Tom Cheek cried those words at the end of Game 6 of the 1993 World Series when Joe Carter hit a Series walk off home run. Today I received my small piece of that moment when Joe Carter returned my ticket stub from that game signed beautifully. A while ago I came across a guy selling his 1992 & 1993 post season tickets on Facebook. He was a really nice guy who ended up calling me via the Facebook app and we talked about it for an hour. He was real happy his tickets were going to a collector who would appreciate them. I was really nervous about sending this ticket in the mail as it was the best and most valuable in the lot I bought. I had included a donation eight times what his typical requested amount was hoping for an inscription and to at least get it back. While I did not get the inscription I wanted I did get it back and get it back signed and that was worth it to me!

Hey Andy!

Rick Anderson was the pitching coach for the Twins for a number of seasons under Ron Gardenhire. He also appears on Carl Pavano’s 2012 Topps #164 card along with Drew Butera. I had a card signed by all three guys but it was in black and more importantly the autograph was scratched up from the mail. I started over with it and got Drew on it a while ago. I sent it to Rick and received it today signed just as I requested. Rick just joined PastPros so I sent it in right away. They did a great job with all the items I sent via them!
